    Figures

The works in this long standing series of colored pencil and ink drawings with textured gesso borders, play with the competition between the direct sensuous experience of the figure, and the seductive but unreadable intricacy of the marginal "notations". The figure and the margins relate, or do not relate in a variety of ways. Mainly they battle for attention in the same way that our direct sense perception alternates with our urge to record, describe, analyze, and categorize our experience. Each process gives context to and enriches the other.
